Review II: Hot Toys ALIEN 1/6th scale Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley 12-inch Collectible Figure

continued from previous toy blog post...

I believe Hot Toys founder Howard Chan has an affinity for films from the past. What I mean is that he is still very sentimental and attached to some of the older but popular movies from the 20th Century like Terminator, RoboCop, Back to the Future, The Matrix and the Alien franchise, or else why would he want to get the license to produce figures from an older era when he could easily release newer figures based on the movies that are current and popular now.

When Hot Toys first started producing and releasing their Movie Masterpiece Series (MMS line) back in 2000, the first seven figures released were Kyle Reese and a damaged Terminator from the 1984 Terminator film, followed by three United States Colonial Marine Corps figures (Hicks, Apone and Vasquez) from 1986 Aliens AND John Rambo plus Colonel Trautman from 1985 First Blood II - you can check out the full listing from MMS001 to MMS140 on my blog post HERE.

And after more than 15 years, Hot Toys announced in May 2016 that they would be releasing a Ellen Ripley figure from the 1979 Alien film which arrived more than a year later in November 2017 (as part of my haul, posted HERE). This is my second part action figure review of Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS366 ALIEN 1/6th scale Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley 12-inch Collectible Figure. Ripley comes with a custom flamethrower, frightened version of Jonesy the cat which can be carried in a specially crafted cat carrier box, tracking device, and Alien themed diorama figure stand with Ripley nameplate.

I've already posted pictures of Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS366 ALIEN 1/6th scale Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley 12-inch Collectible Figure armed with a custom flamethrower with Jonesy the cat in my earlier post HERE, so in this toy blog post I've posed Ripley holding the cat carrier box (with Jonesy inside) in one hand and the tracking device in the other. Her custom flamethrower is slung over her shoulder on her back.

Ripley is wearing a green colored T-shirt, white colored buttoned shirt, blue-gray colored jumpsuit, with white and red colored sneakers (high cut Converse shoes). She also comes with a specially designed wrist watch. The producers wanted the Nostromo's crew to resemble working astronauts in a realistic environment, a concept summarised as "truckers in space". According to Ridley Scott, this concept was inspired partly by Star Wars, which deviated from the pristine future often depicted in science fiction films of the time.

Check out the close-up pictures taken of the highly detailed 1/6th scale tracking device seen in the 1979 Alien film. It looks more like a modern leaf blower than an advanced futuristic tracker. It's always interesting to see how film producers imagined what things would look like in the future. Alien was released more than 38 years ago.

Scroll down to see close-up pictures of the 1/6th scale Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley head sculpt. As I mentioned earlier HERE, I'm glad Hot Toys went with sculpted hair rather than implanted / rooted hair.

The pictures below show off the nicely detailed 1/6th scale specially crafted cat carrier box with frightened version of Jonesy the cat inside.

Posted below are group pictures of the latest Hot Toys MMS366 1/6th scale Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley 12-inch Collectible Figure from ALIEN standing alongside MMS003 Aliens - Hicks (more pics HERE), MMS005 Aliens - Vasquez (pics HERE) and MMS064 Alien - The Nostromo Crew Member - Executive Officer Kane (reviewed HERE).

And here's the Hot Toys MMS039 Aliens - 1/6th scale Power Loader with 12-inch Ellen Ripley collectible figure (more pics HERE). You can see how far the quality of head sculpts have improved over the years.
