ThreeZero 1/6th scale Species Sil 13.7-inch tall Articulated Collectible Figure designed by Giger

Species is a 1995 American science fiction horror film directed by Roger Donaldson and written by Dennis Feldman. It stars Natasha Henstridge (in her debut film role), Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Alfred Molina, Forest Whitaker and Marg Helgenberger. In the film, a motley crew of scientists and government agents tries to track down a seductive alien played by Henstridge before she successfully mates with a human male. Due to her ruthlessness, the alien character was cited as an example of negative treatment of female sexuality and aliens by Hollywood. The design of Sil was also linked to a chupacabra sighting.

The extraterrestrial in Species, an alien woman named Sil, was designed by H. R. Giger, also responsible for the beings from the Alien franchise. The effects combined practical models done by Giger collaborator Steve Johnson and XFX, with computer-generated imagery done by Richard Edlund's Boss Film Studios.

ThreeZero 1/6th scale Species Sil Articulated Collectible Figure features Original Body Uniquely crafted to replicate the Alien Character design created by Legendary H.R. Giger for the original Species movie and Stands approximately 13.7”(~35cm) tall; Soft translucent PVC Dermis on the Torso, Arms and Legs; Strong Attention to Details including Textured Interior-Skeleton; and comes with Stylized Stand.

The casting of Jolie was controversial among many fans of the Tomb Raider series, who felt she was physically inappropriate to play the large-breasted heroine; others complained about an American actress being hired to play a British character. Finally! We will be getting a Hot Toys 1/6th scale Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron collectible figure

"That's one hell of a pilot!" - Finn

Poe Dameron is a commander in the Resistance's Starfighter Corps and one of Leia Organa's most-trusted operatives. The son of a rebel fighter pilot and a rebel commando, Poe grew up on stories of Alliance campaigns. A decorated X-wing pilot, he can fly anything – which is fortunate given how often his headstrong nature leads him into trouble.

This collectible figure of the amazing Resistance pilot who can "fly anything" will soon join the ranks of Hot Toys' Star Wars collectible series! Stay on the lookout, Star Wars fans!

Introduced in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he is portrayed by Oscar Isaac. Poe is an X-wing fighter pilot for the Resistance who inadvertently brings renegade stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and Jakku scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) into the fight against—and eventually a victory over—the sinister First Order. He is featured in The Force Awakens media and merchandising as well as an eponymous comic book series, and will appear in the film's forthcoming sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Isaac and the character have received positive reviews, with Poe being compared to the characterization of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in the original Star Wars film trilogy.

Kitbash 1/6th scale Ryan Gosling as Blade Runner 2049 LAPD Officer K 12-inch figure

continued from previous toy blog post...

Blade Runner 2049 is a 2017 American science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. A sequel to Blade Runner (1982), the film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, with Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto in supporting roles.

Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who's been missing for 30 years.

Having already posted a 1/6th scale Rick Deckard (see the action figure review HERE) and the Police Spinner (pics HERE), I decided to try my hand at K. This is my attempt at kitbashing a 1/6th scale Ryan Gosling as Blade Runner 2049 LAPD Officer K 12-inch figure from parts lying around. Since no figure has been announced yet (officially or otherwise), I thought I'll just get a crack at 1/6th scale Blade Runner K to keep Rick Deckard (12-inch action figure review posted on my toy blog earlier HERE) company.

Medicom Toys "Back to The Future II" Future Car is Police Spinner in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner

continued from previous toy blog post...

In Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner, the year was 2019 and the future is set in a dystopian Los Angeles. Besides the story and Harrison Ford, it was also memorable for the flying cars or 'Spinners'. Spinner is a nickname for the type of Police flying car in Blade Runner that can drive as a ground car, take off vertically, hover and cruise using jet propulsion much like Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft today.

The film Back to the Future Part II paid homage to the Spinner from Blade Runner in that a repainted spinner can be seen parked in a driveway. A spinner car also rests on the Hill Valley Street during the hoverboard chase.

Medicom Toys released this Back to the Future Part II future car as a vehicle for their Kubrick line of mini figures and called it a Miracle Action Vehicle. The Spinner is missing the blinking police lights, blue police colours and markings but has turning wheels which retract for flight-mode and winged doors that opened upwards. The glass bubble cockpit allows the occupants to look up, forward & rear as well as downwards when it is in flight.

Brother Production 1/6th scale Blade Hunter 12-inch figure aka Rick Deckard Blade Runner

The release of Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the 1982 released Blade Runner has brought the attention back to the neo-noir science fiction film first directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford as "blade runner" Rick Deckard, whose job was to track down bioengineered beings known as replicants and "retire" (i.e. kill) them.

Set in a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019, the story depicts a future in which synthetic humans known as replicants are bioengineered by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to work on off-world colonies. When a fugitive group of replicants led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) escape back to Earth, burnt-out LA cop Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) reluctantly accepts one last assignment to hunt them down. During his investigations, Deckard meets Rachael (Sean Young), an advanced replicant who causes him to question his mission.

Following news that Redman Toys will be releasing 1/6th scale Blade Rick and Blade Roy 12-inch collectible figures, essentially Deckard and Batty (see the toy blog post HERE) and recasts of Brother Production figures released back in 2009, I thought I'll take the opportunity to post pictures of the 2009 released Brother Production 1/6th scale Blade Hunter 12-inch figure in this entry.

Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm Collectible Figure Review II

continued from previous toy blog post...

This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm tall Collectible Figure with LED-lighted eyes (red light, battery operated, batteries included) and Endorifle. I like that Hot Toys includes the batteries (nowadays packed separately) which you can use to check out the light-up features. Other companies like ThreeA / ThreeZero and PewPewGun do not include batteries even though their figures have light-up features. It's quite a hassle when you already have the figure in-hand but you still need to go out and purchase the right size batteries to test the light-up elements, especially when you already paid quite a bit for the collectible figure. With all Hot Toys figures, batteries are included and packed separately these days, unlike in the past when the figures came with batteries already inserted. We all know what happens to electronic components when batteries are left in for too long. Check out my toy blog post "Hot Toy Collecting Tip #1: Remove ALL Batteries!" posted HERE.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm quite glad Hot Toys didn't go the die-cast route with this 12-inch figure. They would probably face a lot of issues because of the thin parts like the pistons and such. The main problem would be the weight as the figure would be too top heavy and gravity will not be kind to it. As it is, this rather lightweight plastic made figure cannot stand on its own two feet. The steel-looking body looks very realistic with the specially applied multiple layers of metallic paint on the endoskeleton plus additional weathering effects. The pre-posed metallic-looking hands included for holding his weapon is a right move as articulated fingers would not be able to hold onto the rifle. The flexibility of the individual joints / digits will ultimately compromise the rigidity of the grasp. Even then, the large Endorifle is a tad heavy for the figure to grasp properly, let alone try to raise it.

Bandai METAL BUILD Mazinger Z 7-inch / 18 cm Tall Die-cast Robot Figure - most articulated ever

Mazinger Z is an enormous super robot, constructed with a fictitious metal called Super-Alloy Z (超合金Z Chōgokin Zetto), which is forged from a new element (Japanium) mined from a reservoir found only in the sediment of Mt. Fuji, in Japan. The mecha was built by Professor Juzo Kabuto as a secret weapon against the forces of evil, represented in the series by the Mechanical Beasts of Dr. Hell. Kabuto constructs Mazinger Z and manages to finish it just before being killed by a bomb planted by Hell's right-hand person, Baron Ashura, a half-man, half-woman. As he lays dying, he manages to inform his grandson Kouji Kabuto about the robot and its use. Kouji becomes the robot's pilot, and from that point on battles both the continuous mechanical monsters, and the sinister henchmen sent by Doctor Hell.

Mazinger Z is a Japanese super robot manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai. The first manga version was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1972 to August 1973, and it later continued in Kodansha TV Magazine from October 1973 to September 1974. It was adapted into an anime television series which aired on Fuji TV from December 1972 to September 1974.

Mazinger Z helped to create the 1970s boom in mecha anime. The series is noteworthy for introducing many of the accepted stock features of super robot anime genres, including the first occurrence of mecha robots being piloted by a user from within a cockpit. Guillermo Del Toro has cited the show – which was a huge success in his native Mexico during the 1980s – as an important influence on Pacific Rim.

GATE TOYS X Calvin's Custom 1/6th and 1/18th scale "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" Kickstarter Project

Calvin Lo is a master craftsman and exceptional customiser and kitbasher. If you don't know him already, you will very very soon because he's doing something that is quite mindblowing: his own Kickstarter project - Calvin's Custom "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" in both 1/6th and 1/18th scale. I have the honor and privilege to connect with him recently and he has been sharing with me his upcoming projects and this is one of them. GATE TOYS X Calvin's Custom "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" was most recently showcased at CICF 2017 (China International Comics Festival) and it is out of this world!

Words cannot describe how awesome the MOTOTERMIN8TOR is. So I'll just let the pictures do the talking.

REDMAN TOYS 1/6th scale THE ONE DX 12-inch Collectible Figure aka NEO from The Matrix

It feels like it's a Throwback Thursday, Flashback Friday and Retro Saturday all rolled into one recently. First, we saw Supermad Toys 1/6th scale Six Million Bionic Man Collectible Figure (pics HERE) which was an attempt to replicate the Kenner 1/6th scale The Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors as Steve Austin 13-inch tall action figure from 1975 (action figure review posted HERE). Then there was the recast of 1982 Blade Runner 12-inch action figures by Redman Toys previewed HERE (they are supposed to be Rick Deckard and Roy Batty, no doubt helped in part by the soon-to-be-released sequel, Blade Runner 2049) previously released by Brother Production in 2009 (see my previous toy blog post HERE) and now we have prototype / preview pics of Redman Toys THE ONE, an obvious nod to Keanu Reeves as Thomas A. Anderson aka Neo from The Matrix (1999) which was released by Hot Toys in 2001, before they started their MMS line and did things by the book i.e. with official license - check out the pics of Hot Toys THE ONE HERE.

REDMAN TOYS RM026 1/6th scale THE ONE DX 12-inch Collectible Figure will come with Head Sculpt, Metallic Glasses, Black Overcoat (Wire Can be free to shape), Black T-Shirt, Black Pants, Black Leather Tactical Vest, Black Leather Gun hanging X 2, Black Leather Belt, Black Safety Belt, Black Leather Boots, MP5 Submachine Gun X 2, M92F Pistol X 2, M16 Assault Rifle, Hands X 3 pairs, Slim Body, Figure Stand

There was a very promising Neo figure by Iconic Toys previewed earlier (pics HERE) but alas, the production was shut down so fast the figure never saw daylight and the figure was never made so let's hope we see this figure get released soon.

Customised 1:1 scale Star Wars Jedi pilot helmet

Most recently I was commissioned to design and paint an actual size (1:1 scale) helicopter pilot's helmet as a gift to someone important who was leaving his place of work and the people there felt that he deserved to be sent off with something meaningful, something to remind him of the many years of dedication and service he had given to his organisation. When the helmet was first handed to me, it was as plain and green as it could be (see pics in the post), totally nondescript as was the original intent. My job was to turn it around and make it stand out and carry the right message, to honor the person who once went by the callsign "Jedi". So I did and added a nice display case to showcase the helmet too.

I don't think the Jedi ever wore helmets when they flew their ships so I had to ask myself the question: what if the Jedi did wear helmets, how would the helmets look like in terms of design? There was a restriction in terms of colors because the actual helicopter that callsign "Jedi" flew were red and white so we kept to the color scheme which was also very similar to the helmets the X-Wing pilots wore in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Check out the action figure review of Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars" 1:6 scale Luke Skywalker Red Five X-Wing Pilot figure posted on my toy blog HERE.
